Should I worry about my GSD puppy's sleep, biting, and leg licking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 29 days old | 4 lbs

My dog is a GSD We feed him rice and milk. We use wipes with a fragrance to clean him off. He goes to sleep alot, bites. When he gets up, he urinates instantly, takes his food, plays and then goes back to sleep. He doesn't make alot of noise/bark He shakes when he is sleeping He takes poop 2 times. One time today. He licks/bites his left hind leg alot Vet said to give him deworm on day 35 and vaccination on day 42. He is also 27 day old. Should we be worried about anything?

Toby is still very young and is likely still learning the rules of being a dog! It is normal at this age to not be able to hold urine for long, and most young puppies will have periods of activity followed by a LOT of sleeping. Puppies will also generally have to go potty about 10-15 minutes after waking up, eating, drinking or playing so you can time this to your advantage to train him to go outside. Looking into a puppy training class once he is old enough can help the both of you learn how to communicate and start instilling good behaviors. Continuing with your vet's recommendations for deworming and vaccination are best to make sure he stays healthy. If he does show any signs of illness such as vomiting, diarrhea, or extreme lethargy (no active periods of play at all), then that may indicate an underlying illness which should be looked at by your vet.
