My dog's nose bump burst and is bleeding. What could this be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Male | unneutered | 10 years and 7 months old | 35.5 lbs

Hello, my dog had a small raised black bump at the side of his nose, I noticed it about 3 weeks ago and have kept a close eye on it because he seemed fine, a couple of days ago I noticed it had gone a bit bigger and was more blood filled than black. Today it has burst on its own and was pouring with thick blood. I have attached the aftermath photographs for you to look at. Half of his Lip has also gone pink. Helllp! I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow. Thank you

This kind of lump/growth needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors.
