Why is my dog suddenly anxious, won't eat, and acts drugged?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 10 months old | 50 lbs

My dog is very excited and anxious. He would normally eat anything but won't even lick a treat; he looks the other way . He keeps running around back and forth. He reminds me of a person on heavy drugs. Has happened a few times and I thought neighbors were poisoning him but he always gets better after 24-36 hours. Maybe there's some plant in my backyard that he's been getting to that's poisonous? I'm not sure.

Hi! Poor Teddy Bear! That sounds pretty awful. It is definitely possible that he is getting into something; a drug, or medicine. Dogs will eat literally anything! Would you be able to have him checked out by his vet while he is having the symptoms? If possible, submit a urine sample, in case they are able to run a drug test (some clinics carry drug tests, to look for narcotics, etc). Take a look in the yard, to see if there are any plants that he has gotten into, as well. Poor guy really seems as if he needs some help! Hope he feels better soon!
