Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered

I saw this dog in my neighborhood It seems severe I have no idea what sickness is this but I need answers on how to treat the poor dog. I'm willing to help him even tho his not my dog. I ask the owner what happened and they just respond that the last weeks the dog started to have eye boogers at first they just don't mind since they think it's normal and sometimes they let the dog to stroll outside their house. Please I need answers.

It is very difficult to tell from a picture but leishmania or distemper are both possibilities as well as severe bacterial or fungal infection. A full exam by a vet would be required in order to distinguish these and it is very possible this may be life threatening. Urgent treatment is required in order to relieve his discomfort and suffering

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Pilot evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!
