Why is my dog still having loose stools after anal gland surgery?

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 26 lbs

My dog is still loosing poo after a al sac removal 10 days ago. Is this normal

Anal sac removal surgery can have this kind of complication, that could be transient (lasts up to 2-3weeks time) or unfortunately permanent. Fecal incontinence is due to nerve inflammation. Perianal/anal reflex can be eventually stimulated by using a thermometer. I would wait a week time more before considering it permanent.     This is not normal but incontinence is a rare but recognized risk following such a procedure. Contact your vet for a post surgery recheck, infection and inflammation may be hindering recovery. If no surgical reasons are identified, diet change and increased fibre levels once area is healed may help to form stools and stimulates normal motions
