My puppy is growing. What Nexgard dose should I buy for his weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 5 days old | 13 lbs

Lioh weighs 9.2 lbs and has been prescribed nexgard 4-10lbs (6 packets or 6 months worth). I know he will be gaining weight over the next 6 months and therefore donno know if I should get him 3 packs instead of 6. What would you advice?

Since he is still growing, I recommend starting with 3 doses, or even single doses until he is either done growing or over 10 pounds. Check his weight prior to each dose to assure that he is still in the appropriate dose range.

If you expect for him to be gaining weight I would only buy one of the lower weight doses. I understand you might not be getting the discount this way but this will be the only way to assure that Lioh is getting the appropriate dose of medication. Alternatively there are other flea and tick products that might make more sense in terms of a weight range that will allow you to buy larger quantities right now. For instance the Seresto collar is designed for dogs either under 18 pounds or over 18 pounds and last for up to eight months. I find this product to be the most effective of any of the flea and tick preventative.
