My dog walked on water-based paint. Is it safe if she licks her paws?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Female | spayed | 8 years and 2 months old

Rissa walked on water based primer paint. I washed hey paws with warm water, she is very resilient to pretty much every thing. I'm not one if those psychotic trendy owners who thinks if she has a tiny itch she needs to see a canine allergist. She seems totally fine but the paint is still a little white on her paws. If i see any weird chewing or licking I'll being her to the vet, otherwise should i just chill? Thanks

As long as it is a water based paint and you have washed the area of thoroughly I don't suspect that there will be any problem. Certainly you should make any attempt to prevent her from trying to lick the area in the meantime in case anything residual that could be on there. You might consider either obtaining an ecollar from a vet or pet store or watching a YouTube video on how to make a homemade one. Without seeing the ingredients on the paint I can't be one hundred percent sure that it is completely non-harmful. You could consider calling the pet poison helpline if you are becoming concerned about any possible ingestion then they will be able to go over the possible effects of the substance that is being eaten. Hope this is helpful thanks.
