My aggressive dog has Cushing's symptoms. Can I treat her at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 15 years and 4 months old | 50 lbs

I have a 15 year old pittbull mix that is exhibiting all of the tell-tale signs of cushing's disease. Excessive panting, increased thirst, frequent urination (having accidents in the house), restlessness, increased hunger, 'bony' head structure. She is a very aggressive dog (always has been) and it would be near impossible to bring her into a vet clinic to have blood drawn to test her. Are there any holistic ways I can treat her symptoms?

Not to my knowledge. However, Molly could have something else going on and it's really important to get bloodwork and urine tests done to figure out exactly what state her health is in. I deal with aggressive dogs all the time in my practice, and if you can't get her in the door and get a muzzle on her, consider using an oral sedative prior to the visit to make the process easier on everyone (mostly her!). I usually just sedate dogs like Molly right away in the clinic and then draw blood once they are sleepy and less dangerous.
