My cat won't stop sneezing loudly. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 1 year and 6 months old | 5 lbs

Hello! Jasper has a persistent loud and frequently repeating sneeze. It started yesterday and hasn't stopped. He's otherwise fine: high energy, litter behavior is normal, eating well, etc. Is there anything I can do to help him? When do I know if it's serious? Thanks a lot!! (ps he's sneezed about 10 times as I wrote this)

I am sorry to hear that Jasper has such frequent sneezing. This definitely is beyond what we would call a normal reverse sneezing event. I would suspect that he may have a foreign body lodged in the nasal passages and the frequent sneezing is an attempt to get it out. Another possible causes a severe allergic response that is causing excessive inflammation and irritation in the nasal passages. I would recommend taking Jasper into your veterinarian right away for an examination of his mouth and nose in an attempt to find the source of irritation. I hope you get to the bottom of things soon for Jasper.
