If Sol is currently an appropriate weight for her size, and if she is spayed as you have noted, her daily caloric consumption should be approximately 1,250 - 1300 calories per day. The weight of food that must be given will be determined on the food you are providing. If you are feeding a commercial dog food, the caloric content should be listed on the bag / can or the website.

Before cutting down on her food, I would try limiting her treats. They are loaded with fat and have relatively few nutrients. From this photo, it is apparent that she has a "waistline." which is good. If when you run your hands down her sides you can't feel her ribs, she is too heavy. (If you can see her ribs, she is too thin.) Calories are not the only factors in a dog's weight gain or loss. Remember fat, too! Spayed females may be less active and more prone to weight gain, but it doesn't have to be this way. How about throwing a ball or Frisbee for her to chase? Finding another dog for her to play with? Perhaps a dog park (well-supervised!)? Good luck with trimming Chloe down a bit!

There is a wide range of daily energy requirements for dogs depending on their activity level, if they have been spayed or neutered, and individual metabolism. By my calculation, an average neutered male 17 pound dog with a normal body condition score would require 435-520 calories per day. Yes, vegetable calories count too!

Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Solita needs to consume around 350 calories per day in order to lose weight. Follow the calorie content per cup that is on the package labels of k/d and you can adjust her amount per day accordingly. I hope this helps and thanks for posting!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! He should be eating about 450 calories per day. I would also encourage him to exercise to some degree such as frequent walks. You could consider the Hills Science diet metabolic weight management diet which can help tremendously in this case. Have a good day!

How much should my dog eat per day?
That depends on the food that you are feeding! Different types of dog food will contain a different number of calories per cup of food. I recommend starting with the feeding recommendations found on the bag of food you are using. There will usually be a grid that has the body weight and daily food amount. I recommend dividing the daily food amount into 2 feedings, AM and PM. Some dogs have a higher or lower metabolism than the average dog, so after feeding for a month, I re-evaluate and see if we need to increase or decrease that feeding amount to get them to their ideal body weight.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! For Opie to lose weight gradually and at the same time eat an appropriate amount of food he should be eating about 1,000-1,100 calories per day. How many cups you feed him will of course depend on the caloric content of the food you feed him per cup. That information should be in the back of the bag or possibly online. Hello. This is a great question! She should be eating about 500 -550 calories PER DAY which includes all food and treats. She can eat any food as long as she stays inside that calorie window. If you feed her a lower calorie diet then she will get to eat more food and be less hungry.
