My dog's dew claw is bleeding. Should I treat it or leave it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 40 lbs

I waas playing basket ball with tux and I saw that both of the places where the due claw attached to the skin was bleeding I think he rubbed it raw on the leather basket ball I know he does not need to go to the vet but is there any thing I should do at home or should I just leave it alone

Hello. I would keep him inside and put a cone on him so he can't lick/chew at it. If the wounds don't heal up in 1-2 days then I would have it seen by a vet. Self-trauma/licking will prevent it from healing so make sure you get him a cone. Good luck with Tux.
