My cat's eye infection won't clear up. What's the next step?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 months and 16 days old | 15 lbs

Cat has has persistent "eye infection" since he was 6 weeks old (he is 9 months now). Eye has pink mucous strings along inner eyelid and red crust that forces his eye shut. Have tried neopolygram, ofloxacin, and clavamox (all with lysine) and never missing a date. Have no idea what to do next, please help.

Poor thing! I would recommend consulting with an ophthalmologist. It sounds as though you have tried just about everything, with no improvement. I suspect this to be herpes virus, and it is possible that she needs to try an antiviral therapy such as famcyclovir. The Lysine should help, but it sounds as though she may need additional therapy.
