Should I move my puppy's food bowls away from his potty area?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 months and 3 days old | 18 lbs

My Buddy has his food and water bowls in his play pen. But should i just have him eat in there, or should i havw them in another area of the house? For example in my dinong area? I just feel his feeding bowls and his potty area are on top of each other. I know if he is gonna stay alone for a while in his playpen he should have food and water, but he is never alone. I just dont like the setting. Please help

I can't get over how handsome Buddy is, and his playpen looks lovely! I would have him eat in another area of the home. Pick an area where you are going to feed him as an adult, and start feeding him there. That way, he learns that specific area is for food. My dogs each have a specific spot where they eat, and they know when it's meal time to go to that spot for food. It's better to keep his food area away from his potty area. I wouldn't want to eat where I go to the bathroom either! :-)
