My dog has a painful, sticky bald spot on her cheek. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female

My dog Roxy has been having this bald spot on her right side on her cheek. Were not to sure what it is. At first it was small, probably the size of a dime. But now it's huge. We have another dog and he keeps licking it. We've tried to put medicine on it but he always licks it off of her cheek. At first it was red but now it's white and looks like it has a sticky layer on it. Almost looks like mucus, but were not too sure. She doesn't let me get too close to it because of the pain. What can we do

It looks like a hot spot (moist dermatitis). Your veterinarian should examine Roxy to confirm the diagnosis. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent pawing or rubbing. The e-collar may keep your other dog away from it as well. Ideally, the area should be clipped and scrubbed by your vet. Topical and/or systemic antibiotic treatment may be indicated.
