Why is my cat's belly swollen and she's breathing hard after worming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 3 lbs

My cats belly is very swollen after worming her 10 days ago. I gave her the second treatment today but she seems to be getting worse. Her belly is so big she's having trouble getting on the bed and it seems like she's labored to breathe. I don't have money for the vet and I'm freaking out! She's not quite 2yrs old and puked up a full size round worm before worming her. She's still puking, she's eating but she's so boney she's only about 2-3 lbs. I changed food to Purina pro plan trying to help

This is highly abnormal and very unlikely to be due to the worming treatment. if money is an issue you need to contact a pet charity and they should be able to help with the costs, but she must see a vet urgently.
