My dog cries at the door when I'm inside. How can I make her stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 23.5 lbs

I'm on the computer inside while my dog is outside and she keeps whining and crying at the door for me to acknowledge her. Ignoring her is what I've been doing but hearing her for an hour straight gets really annoying and frustrating. What can I do?

You might consider a distraction. Something like a busy bone or throwing a toy. If you feel like this could be caused by anxiety you'll want to let your doctor know. He/she may be able to prescribe medication to alleviate your pets discomfort. You may also consider installing a doggy door.
