My dog killed a rat. Why is he sick with a lump, limping, and pain?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

Hi. My dog recently killed a rat. He does this all the time, but recently, the kill was not bloodless. Days after, my dog's muzzle has been swelling. Now, the swelling has subsided, but my dog's throat has a lump on it. He also has been mysteriously limp and experiences extreme pain around the abdomen. My area lacks competent vets and the last time i brought a german shepherd pup for mange treatment, he died. :(

I'm really sorry your previous dog died, and I'm sorry you're going through this with Bronze. The signs you are describing are a bit non-specific, however dogs can certainly acquire diseases from eating rodents, the most concerning of which is plague. I don't know if this disease is a problem in your area, but it is definitely something to consider.
