My dog is in heat, lethargic, and not eating. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years old | 11 lbs

My dog is 2 years old and is going into heat for only the second time that I know of. What concerns me is that she is very lethargic and doesn't seem to be interested in eating her favorite treats or very much of her dog food. This is very abnormal behavior for her and is honestly scaring me.

I can certainly understand being concerned about Tulip! Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it can be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. I would keep an eye on her tonight, and if she is still acting this way in the morning I would take her into a vet first thing for a health check.
