Why isn't my Shar Pei shedding? Is it normal or a health issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shar Pei | Female | spayed | 10 months and 19 days old | 40 lbs

I read that sharpei start shedding during spring and fall. The only time she shed was when her adult fur was growing in. She hasn't shed at all but my friends sharpie has and they both has the same short fur. Why isn't she shedding? Should I be concerned??

I don't know of any medical condition that would be cause for your pet NOT shedding during the spring and fall. If I were you I would feel lucky that your pet isn't having noticeable large amounts of shed hair. The hair is shedding but it is likely so slow that it is going unnoticed. However, there is no reason to be concerned at all. Just continue to give Hazel a high quality dog food daily and watch for any signs of skin problems which include: alopecia, bumps on skin, severe itching, licking or chewing. I hope this helps!
