My dog has cancer on prednisone. How to safely taper due to side effects?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 8 years and 4 months old | 88 lbs

Hachi Labrador 8 yrs old was diagnosed with grade 3 mast cell cancer, lump was removed end dog was put on prednisone 50mg twice a day... I want him off of it becouse he is peeing a lot, wetting his bed, thirsty all the time, I think his days are counted and I want him to be comfortable and now he is not. How do I taper him safely?

I believe I provided you with the answer to this question before regarding the tapering. Now that I know that he is being treated for MCT, I would recommend speaking to your vet regarding the treatment. Prednisone is not generally considering the gold standard treatment for this condition. If he has not offered you a referral to an oncologist, I would request one if you are looking to pursue any other therapies. One of the best therapies available right now for Mast Cell Tumors is a drug called Palladia. I would love to consult with you concerning Hachi's condition including this drug and a possible tapering schedule if you were not clear on the answer I provided you earlier. Just let me know or one of the other experts here so we can try and find a way to make Hachi more comfortable.
