Can my unvaccinated puppy catch a virus from people's shoes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 21 days old | 20 lbs

Hello - I've got another question about socialization. Ava is under 16 weeks old. Could she get a virus at a place where there have been no dogs but lots of people? Like could a virus travel from place to place on someone's shoe? For example, I want to take her to my school to hang out with me after exams -- could she get a virus there?

This is a great question! Yes, viruses such as parvovirus can survive on a person's clothes and shoes, so if Ava isn't fully vaccinated, I would not take her any place in public just yet. She could potentially get a virus from someone at school if their dog is sick. Should Ava be fully vaccinated, then it's fine to take her to school. Good luck with your exams, I hope this helps :-)
