My dog has severe distemper symptoms and is in pain. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | 1 year and 11 months old | 10 lbs

My dog Fiji is currently going thru "distemper". We have been taking care of her 24/7. It's now her 2nd week with the disease. She is very weak. Shes going thru frequent seizures, salivating, vomiting, diarrhea with blood?, high fever and she can barely walk... Last week we took her to our local vet, but all she could really do was give her some pain reliever shots and vitamins for 3 consistent days. For the last two nights, she has been crying of the pain.. Any advice? Will appreciate it. Thanks

I'm so sorry you and Fiji are going through this. I know this must be difficult. Unfortunately there isn't much you can you. You may consider offering pedialyte or another electrolyte replacement. Be sure to offer plenty of water, if even through a syringe. Please keep us up to date. We'll be thinking of you.
