My dog is too hot and lethargic. How can I prevent heat stroke?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 18 days old | 80 lbs

It's 28 degrees Celsius today and it's the first hot day my pup has ever experienced. He's very lethargic and I can tell he's too hot. He has plenty of cold water and we're out of the sun, but I just don't know how to help cool him off. What can I do to make sure he doesn't get heat stroke?

Your dog is not going to get heat stroke if he is out of the sun, in a well-ventilated area, and has access to fresh water. Heat stroke is an issue for dogs left in vehicles with the windows up, or dogs allowed or forced to run without rest during warm days. Moose will be fine, but it's great that you are concerned for his welfare:).
