My cat has one red, squinting eye and cold symptoms. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 7.5 lbs

My cats one eye has a different glare then normal, the white part is redish, she squints it more and seems to have a cold. We're wondering if stress has caused a flare up or if we should take her to the vet for more in depth exam.

If your pet has tested negative and has been vaccinated for feline leukemia and feline aids, you shouldn't have to worry about those. This could simply be an upper respiratory infection (if sneezing or nasal drainage have been seen), allergies are common this time of year, feline herpes (if you've seen an ulcer or bump), or maybe even something going on with just the eye. You'll want to visit your local Veterinarian for an exam. He/she may prescribe an antibiotic depending on Zoey's condition.

IF it is only one eye then this is more likely to be an injury/scratch/foreign body in front of the eye with a possible infection and may have caused a painful ulcer. I recommend you get it checked by your vet as soon as possible
