Can surgery fix my Jack Russell's ears that now stick out?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 2 year old Jack russell terrier. Last year his ears went from folding/dropping over in a normal button or triangle shape, to folding backwards and sticking out to the sides. It's certainly not affecting him and is not causing any medical problems, but I would like to see if there's a way to fix it. I've tried massaging them, cream, weighting them but no improvement. Is there a surgical procedure that could help? A breeder mentioned there is. I'm in the UK. Any help would be appreciated

Don't panic, this really could be just a process of maturation and the ears could go back to their normal position after some time. I've looked into surgical procedures and while I've found some here in the states for having the ears stand, I haven't found anything to tack them down. Cosmetic surgeries are even against the law to perform in some states and countries. The best bet would be to contact your local Veterinarian and discuss your regions legal and ethical stance. But again, patience may be the cure.
