My pet rat has a wound from a fight. How do I know if it's infected?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | unspayed

My rat has a wound that seems to be scabbed over, and is missing the fur that was once there. My best guess is that it came from a small fight with my other female rat. How do I know if it is infected?

It doesn't look badly infected to me, just monitor it, it should get smaller every day, if it starts to grow or to look more red and moist, then it's likely to be infected, in that case you will need to take her to the vet in order to get an antibiotic course.
