Brown discharge after dog's pyometra surgery: Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 11 lbs

So my dog recently had a pyometra done and she's been back to her normal self. Yesterday however, she was feeling a bit under the weather and wasn't eating or drinking and had diarrhea. Today, she has been eating and drinking just not as much as before and is still playful. But, I discovered she has a brown discharge that she had when we first found out she had an infection and got really sick. What could it be ?

It's possible that you may need to refill your antibiotic prescription. Your doctor may be able to do this over the phone. It's possible that the original prescription or infection may have cause an imbalance in Hooka's stomach. If you notice any vomiting and diarrhea hasn't gone away over the next 24 hours, you might consider offering her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice until it subsides.
