My dog has anemia and suspected pyometra. Should I spay her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 156 lbs

I originally went to the vet to see if my dog had possible Pyrometra there were x-rays and bloodwork done but no signs of this disease but the vet said he still had suspicions of it. Although the bloodwork did show that my dog is anemic...attached is a procedure that they want to do on my dog I'm not really sure what to do and why they would still want to go through with this if my dog doesn't have any sure signs in the blood work or x-rays of this disease .

Based on the bloodwork, there does not appear to be any signs of infection such as a pyometra. I DO recommend the spay, however, as it will prevent it in the future. If you do not plan on breeding her, this will help to keep her healthier throughout her life. If she is sick, however, now is not the time. I would be interested to know what her symptoms are, and if a chemistry was done with her blood to evaluate her organ function. If you would like to set up a consult we can go over this more in depth.
