Why is my 7-month-old cat peeing blood after negative tests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 7.6 lbs

Our cat has had blood in his urine for 4 weeks. He's been tested for infection with urinalysis and blood work, and had an X-ray. They don't have a definitive answer as to why he has bloody urine. He is eatin and drinking normally and playing. He's only 7 month, and he's due to be neutered, would that cause his issue?

This sounds quite frustrating for everyone involved! At this point, the most common causes of Greyson's bloody urine (UTI, kidney infection, crystals in the urine and bladder stones) have all been excluded. The other possibilities include a sterile cystitis (non-infectious bladder inflammation), urethral spasms or a bladder tumor (unlikely given his young age). Consider discussing medications that could decrease spasms in the urethra or anti-inflammatory medications to decrease bladder inflammation with your vet. Also make sure that Greyson is drinking plenty of water (water fountains or mixing water with canned foods can be helpful) because many causes of bloody urine can also be precursors to urethral obstructions, which can be life threatening. I hope that all goes well!
