Why is my dog's groin swollen and he's not playing or running?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 60 lbs

I have a 1 1/2 year old curr dog. We have never bred him and his dog knots are swelling up and going down. Been going on for about 4 days now. He is very uncomfortable in his hind quarters. Doesn't want to run and play. Just lays around. Very concerned Thank you, Lisa

Hi Lisa! I'm sorry to hear that Rhett has been so uncomfortable. I'm not sure if you are referring to "dog knots" as his knees or lymph nodes. Swelling or enlargement of either one could certainly cause problems, with some of the more common issues related to infectious diseases like lyme disease, other tick borne diseases,or immune-mediated diseases. At this point, I recommend taking Rhett to a vet immediately for evaluation and diagnostic testing. Since Rhett seems so uncomfortable, he will likely need prescription based pain medication, but do not give him anything over the counter, as none are safe for dogs. I hope that he feels better soon!
