Is a two-wheel dog wheelchair safe for a paralyzed dog's back legs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years old | 35.2 lbs

He was diagnosed with distemper 2 years ago and is paralyzed from hips to his back legs. But his front legs are okay. He crawls with his front legs and he has little scratches because of it. I want to make a wheelchair for my dog. And i have it planned already with dimensions and so on. Is it okay to put him on wheelchair with 2 wheels at the back? I want him to like "walk" again but with the help of wheels. Thank you

I think it's a great idea to have a wheelchair made for Bruno so he can "walk" again! There are a number of owners who do this for their pets, and it does help improve their quality of life. Yes it is fine to have two wheels at the back, and I would check this website that sells wheelchairs for dogs to help you get ideas for yours :-) http://www.handicappedpets.com/adjustable-dog-wheelchairs
