Cat's fever rose after amoxicillin. Is it drug fever? When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello! My cat was just prescribed amoxicillin for a suspected upper respiratory infection. We gave him his first dose about an hour ago and his fever has risen. I fear he has drug fever. Is it ok to wait until the morning to address this?

It depends on how high Al's fever is at the moment. A cat's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Take his temperature rectally, and if it's above 103F, he will need to see a vet immediately. Should it be normal or between 102.5-103F, then he can wait until the morning to see the vet.
