My one year old dog's penis tip was bloody and dripping very slight drops of blood when he had an erection today and a time before that. Is there a need to take him to the vet?

Hello. Dog's penises should NOT be dripping blood at any time. Also, if his penis is enlarged and red and stuck out this is an emergency right away. Dripping blood can be a concern with a urinary tract infection, polyps, urethral obstruction (stones, etc). prostatic disease (cysts, infection, etc). These all require a vet visit, so I would get him to the vet as soon as possible, especially if he seems painful or cannot pee (postures to pee but nothing comes out). Good luck with Dingo.

Poor guy. It would have to be a pretty major arterial bleed that doesn’t stop for this to drain his blood supply enough to be fatal. Without seeing how much this is bleeding it is hard to say for sure, but it is unlikely if it is a small vessel bleed. Just get the bleeding to stop as soon as you can and follow all your vets instructions for after care to ensure it doesn’t start bleeding again. If there is a cut there then sutures and ligation of the blood vessel by your vet should take care of it. I wish you the best of luck with Boyce. Take care.

Bleeding is concerning, and it could be a UTI, bladder stones, a disease like leptospirosis, an injury, a problem with coagulation, or toxin ingestion causing the bleeding. Without seeing him in person, I can't say if he will be ok to wait, so I'd take him into an ER vet now to be safe.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like the female might have caused some damage. A vet visit isn't a bad idea to make sure there isn't any damage that requires surgical fixing. Otherwise, monitor his peeing very carefully, as strictures can form that cause a blockage. If there is ANY trouble peeing, or continued blood, then have it checked by a vet. Best of luck with Milo!
