My 2-month-old kitten has bloody diarrhea and sneezes. Can I feed her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | spayed | 1 month and 27 days old | 1.543 lbs

Hi, We've just gotten persian-kitten, roughly 56 days old. But after 24 hours, she has diarrhea, blood in that, and also she sneezes. We went to pet clinic immediately, and they prescribed some injections, serum every 12 hours. They told me we shouldn't feed her. I think she's really hungry :(. Her injections are Ampicillin, Ceftriaxine.

Oh my goodness, Gerdou is absolutely beautiful! Yes, it is typically recommended to not feed a cat for a period of time when they are suffering from diarrhea. It allows their stomach to settle, and then a bland diet is introduced after this period of starving. For a 56 day old kitten, I wouldn't withhold food for more than 12 hours. After this time period, feed Gerdou a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Hopefully she feels better soon, but have her seen by the vet again if the diarrhea continues on the bland diet.
