It is recommended that when a cat gives birth that she is in a quiet room of her own. It helps reduce stress, and female cats can get protective when their kittens are born. It's best to place Jess in her own room when she is close to giving birth and keeping the dog out of the room.

It would be safest to remove your dog from the room and close the door once Jess goes into labor - even with very nice dogs, it's not always possible to predict how they might react to the birthing process. I would be concerned that your dog may try to eat the kittens, or may injure them accidentally by picking them up or chewing on them. It will also be stressful for Jess during labor if your dog is constantly licking or sniffing at her vulva, since there will be lots of discharge and interesting smells there during the birthing process. Once the kittens have all been born, you can try bringing your dog in under supervision for a quick visit if you wish to see how things go :)
