Why are my Persian cat's eyes teary after eye infection treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 10.8 lbs

My persian developed an eye infection back in a while, which seemingly kept getting worse. I had her treated for it. The vet did a 2-3 day course of anibiotic + anti inflammatory injections, along with a course of eye drops. A little after that, her eyes were better than ever, but shortly after that, her eyes returned to her former state. Now they're all very teary with brackish tears running down her cheeks and difficulty opening the left eye. They're constantly like that. Any advise or remedy?

This sounds like your pet has an eye infection and it's possible that it initially got better because the medicaiton was working, but was just stopped too soon, is the infection came back. We normally treat eye infections for at least 7-10 days and sometimes longer depending on the depth of corneal damage. I would recommend extending the course of treatment and definitely no topical steroids should be used or this will only make it worse. So no dexamethasine ingredient in the eye medication or Prednisone. You should be giving something like Tobramycin, Terramycin or Neo/Poly/Bacitracin . I hope this helps!
