Is microchipping my dog worth it given cancer risk concerns?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 3 days old | 2 lbs

Can you please tell me I'm your opinion, if it is worth it to microchip? My Pug puppy is supposed to be microchipped this week at 5 weeks, after we pick him out. I was reading online about microchipping and risks of things like getting cancer. I'm just wondering if it is worth getting worried over this, or if the risks are very low.

This is a great question! It is actually incredibly rare for a dog to develop cancer from microchipping, and much of what you are reading online is scare mongering and not based on research. It's definitely worth getting Jose microchipped and I would highly recommend getting it done :-)
