What is this red, irritated pad-like sore on my dog's forearm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 29 days old | 35 lbs

My dog has a pad almost halfway up his forearm an drew there is a sore right below it that almost looks like another pad... it is red and looks irritated but he isn't giving much attention to it.. I was just wondering if you had any ideas on what it could be and what to do as far as treatment.. thanks for your time.

I'm glad to hear that Domino is not bothered by this skin lesion. It looks as though this lesion could be due to a benign mass (histiocytoma), malignant mass, granuloma (inflammation around foreign material under the skin), among other possible causes. The only way to definitively diagnose this lesion is through a fine needle aspirate whereby a vet will draw a few cells from the lesion and examine them microscopically. This test will help to determine if the lesion should be removed surgically, monitored for changes or treated with antibiotics. I hope that all goes well for Domino!
