My dog is lethargic and won't eat after a long hike. Should I worry?

Hello. Yesterday my dog (a border collie/blue heeler) went for a decently intense hike (5 miles with about 1400 feet of elevation gain). She ate and drank her morning meal before and I tried to keep her hydrated throughout the hike (it was about 80 degrees) and she was pretty tired a little over half way through. When I got her home she drank a lot more and ate but now even today she is very lethargic, wont eat or drink, and is just lying around. Is she just exhausted or should I be worried?

It sounds like Velvet went on a very long hike (good on you for doing it too!), and it could be that she is very tired from such a long hike. It is concerning that she is very lethargic and won't eat or drink. I would try to tempt her to eat by soaking her food in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth, or by offering her small amounts of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice. Should she refuse to eat this, then I would have her seen by a vet for a health check.
