My Goldendoodle is smart. How can I start agility training with her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Goldendoodle | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 50 lbs

I have a super smart Goldendoodle, she is a little over a year old! She knows a ton of tricks and I would like to take that farther and work on Agility training with her, do you have any suggestions on how I start that? Thanks!

This is an excellent source of information available on line. I would recommend to have a look at this link to understand better how to start with this training. https://www.cesarsway.com/dog-training/toys-and-play/how-to-get-started-with-dog-agility-training Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

One of the first things I would suggest doing is contacting your local kennel club. They might be able to put you in touch with some people that are involved in agility training, flyball, lure, etc. Once you are in touch with those people, they will be able to give you some advise on what the best methods are to starting training for these types of strenuous activities. From a medical standpoint, prior to involving Vesta in this type of activity, I would have a very thorough orthopedic exam performed by your veterinarian. It is important to know that all of her joints, ligaments, and bones are strong and in tact prior to pursuing these types of sports. There are so many different types of agility courses nowadays, and you may have to narrow down precisely what you will actually be doing with Vesta prior to figuring a training regimen. I would also contact some local dog trainers, as some of these folks generally specialize in training for agility sports.
