My dog got diarrhea and threw up after peanut butter with meds.

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 7 years and 9 months old | 23 lbs

I went to the vet yesterday and they gave me medication for thyroid. It's levo thyroxine 0.3 I gave her a pill with peanut butter is around 12 noon yesterday. And four hours later she was pooping all over the living room and this happened throughout the night I did not sleep the stool was soft and she also threw up

Poor Bella! The peanut butter may have caused the diarrhea. Withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. In the future, use something other than peanut butter to get her to take her pills. Cheese may work or a bit of hot dog. Use a small amount of either, just enough to hide the pill. You can also buy Pill Pockets from your vet or from Petco. These are convenient treats used to give medication. If the diarrhea doesn't resolve, see your veterinarian for an exam.

    Hello! Glad to hear Bella is doing better! I generally recommend feeding only the bland diet for a total of 3-5 days, generally until the stool is formed. Then, slowly transition her back to her normal diet over one week so that her GI tract can re-adjust to her normal food. :) I hope this is helpful!     Hi there. I'm not sure how long ago she ate the cookies but that small amount of chocolate chips should not really harm her. It is the unsweetened baker's chocolate that is the huge problem for dogs. When this happens the diarrhea is usually self-limiting meaning it will go away on it's own within a day or so. I would give her 3 teaspoons of pepto bismol but I would only give the one dose - it contains aspirin and can cause ulcers in the stomach if given too much. You may also want to give her some probiotics. I suggest Fortiflora but you can use any kind that is made for dogs. I hope this helps. Best wishes and I hope Nova is back to her normal self soon!

    I would recommend giving boiled chicken and rice. If the diarrhea doesn't resolve within a day or two of that I would call your vet. They can provide medication to help it resolve a lot faster. I would also recommend bringing Maggie if she starts vomiting, not eating or there is blood in her stool. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Yes, absolutely. Peanut butter is a high fat food and for that reason, it may result in gastrointestinal upset. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

My puppy (7 months) has 2 days with diarrhea, has defecated 3 times in the last 4 hours. My daughter tells me that she has given him a teaspoon of peanut butter the last 3 days.
It may be due to the peanut butter which should be stopped. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If the diarrhea does not resolve, take him to the vet to get treatment.

It could be this new treat has upset Harley's stomach. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Penelope ate maybe a teaspoon of peanut butter it was on a piece of celery. Then about 20 minutes later she started vomiting . She drank some water but she threw it back up. She vomited 3 times.

I accidentally gave my 10 month old Pomeranian dog some peanut butter and he ate too much and now he puked four times already should I take him to the vet or stop giving him food until he feels better?
Poor little guy! Before doing anything else, check the ingredient list on your peanut butter to check for xylitol. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs, causing sudden drops in blood sugar that can lead to seizures, liver failure, and even death in severe cases. If xylitol is listed on the ingredients, take your dog to an ER vet immediately. However, if xylitol is not a concern, it certainly sounds as if your puppy has some stomach upset. This could be a result of gastroenteritis from eating too much of a fatty food, or he may be developing pancreatitis. Definitely stop feeding him for the next 12-24 hours. When you begin feeding him again, offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for the next few days before slowly transitioning back to his normal diet. If he continues vomiting today, he should be seen by a vet to assess his hydration and administer supportive care (fluids, anti-nausea medication, etc.). I hope he feels better soon!

My new puppy (only had for almost 10 hrs) is having stomach issues. Her stomach is gurggling and she has thrown up once with dirheara. But it is only when I take her out. She is happy but her stomach will not stop. I am feeding her the same food her
I'm sorry Bella isn't doing well at the moment! It could be that she is suffering from a GI illness or may have eaten something that has upset her stomach. I can give you a home remedy to try to see if that helps. Withhold food for a couple of hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, you see blood in the diarrhea, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. My dog has dirrarea after few hours of consuming Trifexis what should I do?
Diarrhea can be a side effect of any antiparasitic medication. As long as Butter is behaving normally otherwise, you can manage it at home. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amount until symptoms resolve. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms to monitor for and that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

My cocker Spaniel has diarrhea for two days, just like water. I have given chicken and rice. Still not helping. Is there any thing i can buy over the counter for her.
Diarrhea and throwing up can be caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  Start all over with fasting Bella for 24 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on. Over the counter medication only masks symptoms, but does not fix this problem. If she has an infection she will need prescription antibiotics.

I gave my dog some peanut butter a few days ago and he's had some diahorrea this morning and I was wondering if the peanut butter could be the cause? He seems to have a really sensitive stomach but he always picks EVERYTHING up when he's on his walks
It is unlikely that the peanut butter is the culprit. Usually stomach upset will occur within 24 hrs of ingesting something. There is likely another cause here. You can try feeding Ziggy a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days to see if this can settle his stomach. You can also try over the counter Purina EN Gastrointestinal from your local pet store (if available). If he still can't get back to normal then a vet visit is best to get him checked out for possible other causes of his loose stool (ie parasites, underlying disorders) and proper treatment (i.e. Antibiotics, probiotics, etc). My 5 m/o golden doodle puppy gets frequent bouts of diarrhea. Stool sample tests always come back negative. I've done some research online, and I think she may either have a food allergy or IBS. She didn't have diarrhea for the past couple of weeks b
Some dogs are very sensitive to dietary changes without having true IBS or food allergies. If she does well on a bland kibble then I would recommend just being strict about no other treats. If she continues to have diarrhea the hypoallergenic diet trials would be something to consider. Also even considering biopsy of the intestinal tract at the time of spay may be something to consider in the future if this continues. I hope this is helpful!
