Why is my guinea pig wheezing, has a runny nose, and eye discharge?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male | unneutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 2.2 lbs

My guinea pig has been occasionally making strange hooting noises when he breathes. The white underneath his eyes is more pronounced (yesterday it was worse than the pictures attached) and he has some dried liquid on his nose that may be nasal discharge. Other than that he has been his happy regular self, he is eating, drinking and getting excited over his treats. What is the best and worst case scenario? What is a best course of action?

Coke may be experiencing a bit of a respiratory infection, which is causing the discharge and wheezing you are seeing. It would be best to bring him into your vet for a full exam and care. They may recommend medications such as an antibiotic to help get him feeling better.
