Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 years and 3 months old | 11 lbs
My dog has been acting strangely for a couple days. We threw away a favorite rug of his that he liked to hang out on - but, unfortunately, had been peeing on occasionally, and the rug eventually just had to go. It was under our kitchen table, and we haven't replaced it. Since it's been gone, he has seemed restless and anxious. I find him hiding under the bed or hanging out in odd parts of the house, and he can't seem to sit still. Could this all be related to his rug being taken away?

It certainly could all be related to this. I have seen dogs and cats react in similar ways to much small environmental changes than the one you are describing. If you want to test it, try putting another rug that was similar to the old one back in its original location and see what happens. If he's acting better but continuing to urinate on it, consider going back to basics with some house-training.
