How to effectively sanitize a pet enclosure to kill parasites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, I am just wondering about the best way to sanitize a enclosure to rid it of hookworm, strongyloides and coccidia contamination. The enclosure is wood with plastic insulation sheets stapled inside, a few inches of dirtl, two logs and 3 bricks at the basking site. I am baking the dirt at 525f, going to soak the logs in ammonia solution as well as the bricks, and plan to steam clean the inside of the cage. Is that sufficient? Anything else I can do to ensure the parasites in there die? Thanks

That sounds sufficient. As long as the ammonia solution is strong enough (at least 10%), you should get rid of everything. Coccidia are tough little bugs. They can withstand just about anything sometimes it seems.
