My dog is limping. Should I use ice or just rest him as the vet said?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 7 months old

My dog has been limping for 2 weeks, I put ice in the paw for 3 days. But the veterinarian told me not to put it, since we do not know what the muscle is, she said only to him to do rest and nothing of races. But when I put ice on it looked like it was getting better. What do I do? I want him to stop limping, but will it still take some time? He when he started to limp did not immediately rest, continued to run quite because I thought it was nothing special

Cold or ice therapy is most effective in the first 3 days and only when applied over the exact site of injury (be careful not to damage the skin - ensure ice pack is wrapped prior to application. Pain relief, rest, physiotherpay and chiropractic care can all be very helpful in such cases
