Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 6 years and 5 months old | 0 lbs
Hello! I have budgies that due to allergies doesn't live with me, but rather lives in a retirement home. I come and clean once a week, so I don't see them much at all. When I visited today I found that the female is holding her wings very strangely out from her body. She's not tame, so I can't examine her more closely, but she doesn't seem in any pain. She doesn't appear lethargic and she definently hasn't lost her apitite. Does someone know what this is and if I should seek a vet for it?

Birds can hold their wings away from the body if they are warm, but it can also happen if they are having trouble breathing or are in pain. Since the other bird in your picture doesn't seem puffed up/panting as if it were warm, it may indicate that Totto isn't feeling well. If she shows any other signs of illness (loss of appetite, strange stools, lethargy), is having trouble breathing/panting heavily, or doesn't perk back up after a day it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP. Since you mentioned you aren't there daily, it is best to see if a worker at the retirement home can monitor her for changes/improvements. She may need to be separated from her cage mate while she recovers as well.
