My vaccinated Yorkie mix has parvo after surgery. Will she survive?

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 4.8 lbs

I have a four year old teacup yorkie mix. They did emergency surgery for pyometra. It turned out she didn't have that ,but have parvo!! She has been vaccinated. What is her chance for survival?? Keep in mind she just had unnessairy surgery

Poor Noel! If she is in the hospital on IV fluids and supportive care, she will likely do well in my experience, even as she just had surgery. Some cases of Parvovirus are mild and require just a day or so on fluids to recover, and some dogs need to be hospitalized for 1-2 weeks. Hopefully she does great!

    \i'm sorry for your loss. if your dog is not vaccinated then you need to wait at least 2 weeks after your puppy recovers from parvo, you will need to sterilized your house very well before you do that (a lot of cleaning with bleach!).

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Yumi. I am sorry to hear that she is so ill. Most puppies do survive a parvovirus infection, but they require aggressive care. She will need to be on IV fluids, injectable antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. Your veterinarian is right that she needs to eat. If the medication can control her vomiting, this will help her to keep food down. There is no way to know for sure if she will survive, but it sounds like you are providing her the care she needs. Since your dogs have been vaccinated before, as long as the vaccines were up to date, they should be ok and not get it. Your puppy's best chance of survival is with the vet, and surviving the first four to five days is a good indication. If she makes it through those days, hopefully she will be ok.

Can a dog survive from Parvo virus even if they are unvaccinated?
It can survive, but parvo is a very deadly disease so there is a good chance the dog can die. To have the best chance of survival, your dog does need to be hospitalized. Parvovirus treatment consists of aggressive supportive care to control the symptoms and boost your dog’s immune system to help him win the battle against this dangerous disease. Dogs infected with parvovirus need intensive treatment in a veterinary hospital, where they receive antibiotics, drugs to control the vomiting, intravenous fluids and other supportive therapies. I brought my puppy home from an animal shelter, they did not tell us she was having diarrhea. Later that night she had terrible diarrhea and the next day she started throwing up. I took her to the vet they said she tested strong positive for parvo. T
Poor Music. It is so difficult to tell whether or not she will make it this early. If she isn’t improving, you may consider taking her back to the vet for bloodwork and see if there is a 24 hour facility in your area that can watch her and give her the fluids and IV antibiotics if needed. Make sure she is either eating or getting some nutrical to keep her blood sugar up. When they go without food and are sick, their glucose can get really low which can cause a lot of issues. I hope this helps and she pulls through. Keep giving her the fluids and antibiotics and watch her closely.

A dog's chances of survival with [parvovirus](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/parvovirus/) are entirely dependent on the pets will to thrive and genetics. But yes, you do increase survival with quick veterinary action and appropriate treatment. The parvo vaccine at this time is not recommended because you suspect she may already be infected with parvovirus. The same applies to people, if a person has the flu already it is not advised to give them the flu vaccine. She will most likely not be okay with just hydration because parvovirus requires a multiple treatment for the best chance at survival. It is best to take her to your vet for proper medical treatment for parvovirus, which can be treated at home with medication given to you by the vet if you cannot hospitalize her (which is the optimal treatment). I have been successful in saving parvo infected pets with having the owner return daily for injectable antibiotics, anti-nausea medications, subcutaneous fluids and Vitamin

It can take 1-2 weeks to recover from parvo, and it is probably encouraging that Frank is not worse at this point. Even when you are careful about potential exposure and when you follow the recommended vaccine protocol sometimes puppies will still become infected with the virus. While I can’t say the exact odds without knowing more details about his lab values and physical exam, some studies have shown a 90% success rate with inpatient treatment in a hospital and the longer he goes without developing life threatening complications the better his prognosis is.

I think my puppy has parvo and I know getting her into a vet asap is the best thing I'm giving her pedalite about every hour and zofran with it but not every time. I don't know her wiegh cause she is only 7-8 weeks old. I'm scared and trying my best
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Parvovirus is a severe gastroenteritis that affect puppies more often. This is a viral infection so there is no direct treatment for the virus so the treatment per se is directed at treating secondary bacterial infections and mostly helping with the clinical symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea and inappetence. This warrants ideally hospitalization with some cases being able to be managed with outpatient care depending on its severity. I recommend that you follow up with a veterinarian who can institute therapy for Allie as soon as possible. The quicker this condition gets treated the better the outcome tends to be. Good luck! What extra chances can boost Parvo recovery
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marley. The best chance for a dog to survive a parvovirus infection is hospitalization at a veterinary hospital. IV fluids are given along with injectable antibiotics and anti-nausea medication. If the nausea can be controlled, then the puppy will eat. The immune system needs a large amount of calories to function so food needs to be consumed. I hope this information helps!

Parvo virus is very serious and each case is different. Some dogs survive, while others don't despite our best efforts. Please ensure he is under the care of a veterinarian and he may even need to be hospitalized. I'm sorry you are going through this and I wish you the best.
