Is it normal for my dog to have no hair on his belly and armpits?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my jack Russell Terrell chihuahua mix has little to no hair on underbelly and armpit and part of neck. He seems healthy on every regard. He's just over a year. Is this normal?

From the photo, Fingal's skin appears to be quite normal. Some breeds (including chihuahuas) naturally have little to no hair on their bellies or armpit areas. As long as Fingal is acting normally and not itchy, this is not a cause for concern. :-)
