My dog spaces out and drools without convulsing. Is it a seizure?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Sometimes my dog spaces out and starts drooling and moving his mouth, almost as if he was talking. He seems coherent like he can hear me but has a delayed reaction. Someone said it was a seizure but he doesn't convulse. It doesn't happen all the time but it's not something that happened only once or twice either. I've had him since 2/17 it's now almost 5/17and I saw it about 7 times. Could it be a seizure or something else? And what can I do to help him?

Seizures don't always include convulsions. Charlie should be examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause if possible. A consult with a veterinary neurologist may be indicated. In the meantime, begin a log of his events. Note the time of day/night, duration, behavior before/after the event, diet and any other pertinent information. This may aid in the diagnosis.
