Is Toltrazuril safe for my monitor? How to prevent parasite reinfection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I am planning to seld treat my monitor for 3 types of parasites; hookworms, strongyloides and coccidia. I have Panacut and Baycox Toltrazuril Coccidiocide. I know Panacur is safe for monitors but am not so sure about the Toltrazuril. Is it safe? I have the dosage information and everything so if its safe I can dose both with confidence. Also, I want to prevent reinfection from the enclosure. Does it have to be cleaned out or can I feed him in a bin for a while until parasites are dead in cage?

Toltrazuril has safely been used in monitors and other reptiles to treat coccidia infection. Confirm the dose for this and other medications with your veterinarian or an experienced herp veterinarian prior to administration. Shaka should not be fed where there is feces present. Continue to feed him in a separate tank if that is how he has been fed. Clean and sanitize the tank and tank furniture. Remove droppings as soon as possible to prevent reinfection.
